The feeling

I wish you were here.

There is a thing you want to say that will not fit in a message. Not because it is long, but because a message is read in two seconds and buried under forty more by morning.

Distance is the obvious version of this. So is a birthday where you are in the room and still cannot find the words.

The experience

Open this when you are alone.

Your photographs, your letter, the moments that got you here, and a count of every day since it started. It arrives as one link, and it opens a chapter at a time rather than all at once.

It takes a few minutes to go through. That is deliberate. Nobody keeps a thing they finished reading in four seconds.

The reveal

I made this for you.

They type a code only the two of you would know, and it opens. You do not have to be in the room, and most people are not.

Afterwards it stays where it is. They go back to it on an ordinary day, which is the part nobody expects.

Make it yours

Everything in it is yours to write

Fourteen chapters, and the words in every one of them are the ones you choose. Nothing says our name until the very end.

Your letter, a line at a time

Each paragraph arrives on its own, the way a letter is actually read. Write as much or as little as you mean.

A count that keeps counting

From the day it started to the day they open it, worked out fresh every time. Nothing is written down, so it is never out of date.

The moments that got you here

A timeline of your story with up to three photographs on each one, in your own words.

A passcode only they know

The date you met, or anything else they would get and nobody else would.

When people send one

Some reasons people make these

For the one who feels far away

The video call ended an hour ago

You are still awake and they are already asleep. Send the thing you wanted to say, and let them find it in their morning.

Long distance gift ideas

For the day you both remember

A year you want written down

You have the photographs on your phone and never did anything with them. Put the year in order, with a line under each one.

Anniversary gift ideas

For the person who has everything

It is nearly midnight on their birthday

They buy what they want when they want it. What they cannot buy is proof that you noticed. Send that at 12:01 instead of a cake emoji.

Birthday surprise ideas

For an ordinary Tuesday

Nothing happened and you meant it anyway

No occasion, no reason, nobody expecting it. Which is exactly why it lands harder than the one that arrives on schedule.

How to write the letter

How it works

Write it, see it, then pay

In that order. You never pay for something you have not already looked at.

  1. 01

    Write it

Two names, the date it started, your letter. The editor opens already filled in with an example you can replace.

  2. 02

    See it

Every chapter, on a real phone screen, before you pay a thing.

  3. 03

    Pay once

No subscription. One payment when you are happy with it.

  4. 04

    Send one link

They open it on their phone, type the passcode, and read it.

A real example

Tap through the whole thing

This is the finished product, not a picture of it. Every chapter is here: the count, the lock, the letter, the timeline, the photographs and the last page. Go through it the way the person receiving one would.

  • Fourteen chapters
  • A passcode you can try
  • Ten photographs on a line
  • A video at the end

Noah and Mira are made up. We wrote this one, with photographs from a stock library. Real customers’ letters are theirs, not a shop window. The passcode is printed on the lock screen.

The lock, honestly

What private means here

The words wait

Nothing from the letter onwards is sent to a browser until the passcode is accepted on our server. It is not hidden in the page.

Not indexed

Stories are kept out of search engines, and the link preview says who it is from without giving away a word of what is inside.

A lock on a link

Anyone you give the link and the code to can open it. That is the whole security model, and we would rather you know it.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What exactly do they get?

One link. They open it on their phone, type the passcode you chose, and the story plays a chapter at a time: the count of your days, your letter, your timeline, your photographs and a closing page with both your names.

Do they need an app or an account?

No. It opens in whatever browser is on their phone, including the one inside WhatsApp. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.

Can I see it before I pay?

Yes, all of it. You build the whole thing and look at it on a phone-sized screen first. Payment is the last step, not the first.

How private is the passcode?

The code is checked on our server and the story is not sent to the browser until it is right, so the words are not sitting in the page waiting to be read. Eight wrong guesses and it stops answering for fifteen minutes. It is a lock on a link, not a bank vault: anyone you forward the link and the code to can open it.

Can I add a video?

On Cinematic. Paste an unlisted YouTube or Vimeo link and it plays as the last chapter.

How long does it stay online?

A year on Simple and Love Story, two on Cinematic, from the day you publish. We will tell you before it ends.

Can I change it after I have sent it?

Write to us and we will change it for you. Self-serve editing after publishing is not built yet, and we would rather say so than pretend.

What does it cost?

One payment, no subscription. The three plans are above; they differ by how many photographs fit and whether there is a video at the end.

Make them feel every word.

Your memories, your words, and the days you have counted. Build the whole thing and look at it before you decide.
