Most Indian wedding invitations now travel one way: a WhatsApp message from a parent or the couple, sent family by family. The card, the venue, the map, the muhurtham time — all of it lives behind whatever you type in that message. So the message matters more than most families realise.
This guide gives you 25 messages you can copy, grouped by who is sending and what for. Each one is short enough to read without scrolling, warm enough for a wedding, and ends with a clear "here is the invitation" line. At the end there is a short section on what to attach — because a well-written message with a blurry JPEG under it still gets lost.
Before you write: three rules that work
- Name the guest. "Dear Ravi Uncle & family" gets opened; "Hi" gets ignored. Send it family by family, or use personalised guest links that put the name inside the invitation itself.
- Put the date in the message, not only in the card. People search their chats later. "14 February 2027, Chennai" in plain text is what they will find.
- One link, not one image. A link opens the full invitation with directions, timings, the live stream and a countdown — and it updates if something changes. An image freezes the day it was sent.

Timing your WhatsApp sends
- Save the date: 4–8 months ahead, especially for relatives who need to travel. A one-screen Save the Date with the day circled works better than a text message alone.
- Invitation: 4–6 weeks ahead for the main list; 2 weeks for colleagues and neighbours.
- Reminder: 3 days before, with the map, and again the evening before for the muhurtham timing.
FAQ
Should I send the invitation to a WhatsApp group or individually?
Individually, or family by family. Group posts get buried and feel impersonal. If you must use a group, pin the message and still send the elders their own.
Can I write the message in Tamil and the invitation in English?
Yes. The message is what the guest reads first, so write it in whichever language the family speaks. The invitation itself can carry both — names in Tamil script render correctly on ShareMyInvite.
