Sending a wedding invitation on WhatsApp sounds trivial — tap forward, done. Then the questions start. Why does the card look blurry on Amma's phone? Why did half the guests miss the reception timing? Why is Periyappa asking for the address again three days before the wedding?
Almost all of those problems come from what you send, not how. This guide walks through the format decision first, then the exact steps, then the mistakes we see every wedding season.
Step 1: choose the format
There are three ways to put a wedding invitation into a WhatsApp chat.

A link is the right default. It is the only format that carries directions, the only one guests can search for later, and the only one that fixes itself when a venue or time changes. A video is a lovely addition — for WhatsApp status and Instagram — which is why our Video plan gives you both.
Step 2: build the invitation
With an animated invitation the build takes about five minutes:
- Pick a design — South Indian Traditional, Cinematic or Minimal.
- Add the couple's names (Tamil or English), parents, and a family message.
- Add each event: engagement, muhurtham, reception — with date, time, venue and a Google Maps link. Add a live-stream link if relatives are abroad.
- On the Photos & Music plan, drop in a couple photo, a few gallery photos and a background track.
- Pay once. Your link is live immediately, with a WhatsApp button and a QR code.

Step 3: send it properly
- Send from the phone the family recognises. A message from Amma's number gets opened by her generation; the couple's number works for friends.
- Write a message above the link. WhatsApp shows a preview card, but the first line of text is what people read in the notification. Use one of these 25 message samples.
- Send family by family. Not to a 200-person group. A personalised greeting ("Dear Ravi Uncle & family") roughly doubles the chance the invitation is opened the same day.
- Use the WhatsApp button on the invitation. After publishing, the success page has a Send a personal invite box: type the family's name, tap Share, and WhatsApp opens with the message and a personalised link ready to go.
Step 4: follow up without nagging
Three touches are enough:
- Week of the wedding: "Three days to go" with the link again — the map is inside.
- Evening before: muhurtham timing and parking note.
- After: a thank-you with the same link — by now the blessing wall is full of wishes and the photos are worth revisiting.
Mistakes we see every season
- Sending a screenshot of the printed card. It is unreadable on a small screen and carries no map.
- Putting the reception timing only in the image. Guests search chats for the date; text wins.
- Changing the venue and resending a new file. Half the list keeps the old one. A link avoids this entirely — edit once, everyone sees the new details.
- Forgetting relatives abroad. Add the YouTube live link to the muhurtham event; it appears as a Watch live button and switches to Live now automatically.
- No reminder. People love you, but they also have 40 unread chats.

Does the guest need to install anything?
