Digital wedding invitation link vs video invitation — which should you send?

An honest comparison of an animated invitation link and a wedding invitation video for Indian weddings — cost, turnaround, what guests can do with each, and when you want both.

Search "WhatsApp wedding invitation" and you will find two very different products with the same name. One is a video — a 30 to 60 second animation with your names and photos, rendered by a studio and sent to you as an MP4. The other is a link — a web page that opens like an app, plays an intro, and holds every detail of the wedding. Families often buy the wrong one for what they need, so here is the comparison we wish we had.

The short answer

  • Want guests to know where to go, when, and how to watch live? A link.
  • Want something to post on WhatsApp status and Instagram the day you announce? A video.
  • Want both without paying two vendors? A link that includes an MP4 — our Video plan.

When a video is the right choice

  • You want a status post or an Instagram reel the day the date is fixed.
  • You are sending to a large, informal audience — colleagues, a society WhatsApp group — where nobody will need directions.
  • The family loves the cinema-trailer feel and has a photographer's pre-wedding shoot to show off.

A video is a moment. It does not need to do logistics.

  • Guests need the address, the muhurtham window and the reception timing — and will look for them again the week of the wedding.
  • Relatives are abroad and need the live stream.
  • Anything might change — venues do, timings do, and a link is the only format that fixes itself.
  • You want guests to leave blessings the couple can keep.
  • You care about the preview card in WhatsApp: a link shows your names and photo before it is even tapped.

Why "both" is usually the answer

The families we see get the best of it do this: a link goes out family by family with a personal message, and a 20–30 second video goes on the couple's status and the parents' status. Same design, same colours, so it all feels like one invitation.

That is exactly what the Video plan is: an animated invitation link, live the moment you pay, plus a 9:16 MP4 of that same invitation delivered within 72 hours for status and Instagram. You do not manage two vendors, and the video and the page match.

Live preview — scroll it like a guest would.

Cost and turnaround, honestly

A studio video is a service: someone edits your names into a template and renders it, which is why it takes days and costs more. A link is software: you type the names, the animation is generated on the spot, and edits are free. If the budget allows one thing, the link does more for more guests. If the budget allows both, send both.

One payment, a year of hosting; the Video plan adds your clip and a 9:16 MP4.

FAQ

Can I turn my animated invitation into a video myself?

On the Video plan we do it for you — a screen-recorded, colour-graded MP4 of your invitation in portrait format. Doing it yourself with a screen recorder works but the result is usually choppy and the intro music will not be in sync.

Is a link safe to send? Will it stop working?

Your invitation is hosted for a year from the wedding date, on a link nobody can guess. It does not expire the week after the wedding; the blessing wall and photos stay up for the family to revisit.

Do older phones open the link?

Yes. It is a normal web page tuned for the WhatsApp in-app browser on mid-range Android phones — no app, no download, and the intro animation respects the phone's reduced-motion setting.

Which looks better?

A well-made video is beautiful for 30 seconds. A well-made link is beautiful for as long as the guest scrolls — and it is the one they will open again on the wedding morning to find the hall.
